We want an affordable family activity for our North Georgia vacation. Suggestions?
Spring in Dahlonega: We'd recommend some North Georgia mountain hiking and definitely some tours of Wine Vineyards in Dahlonega.  Springtime festivals like Bear on the Square and the Wildflower Festival are fun.  Touring one of the Dahlonega Gold Mines is always fun for all ages! The Dahlonega Reservoir, just off the square, is a great spot to picnic and walk.
Summertime in Dahlonega: Go Chestatee River tubing or canoeing with the fam.  On the weekends, musicians gather on the square and form impromptu concerts - free entertainment!  Check out a movie or play at the Holly Theater - entertaining and air-conditioned!
Fall in Dahlonega: Activities in Dahlonega are centered around the question "When do the leaves change?"  If you decide to take a leaf-gazing trip, give Kathy a buzz at the shop (706-864-6577), send her an email or check Cranberry Corner's facebook page.  The Gold Rush Festival is held the 3rd FULL weekend in October.  Gold Rush 2011 was this past October 15th and 16th (pictures coming soon!).
Winter in Dahlonega:  It's all about Old Fashioned Christmas in Dahlonega!  The holiday season kicks off the first weekend in December with the welcoming of Father Christmas and gazillions of white lights strung in the trees around the square.  Beautiful luminaries dot the sidewalks in front of shops.  The most beautiful, amazing time of year in Dahlonega!  Check our facebook page for updates about Old Fashioned Christmas in Dahlonega.

What's the weather in Dahlonega like?  Weather in Dahlonega is,um, awesome.  We're just north enough to get the occasional Georgia snowfall, but also are treated to an upper-50's December day.  Springtime sees a few temper tantrum from mother nature, but overall is just gorgeous - dogwoods in bloom everywhere!  Summer is hot and humid, we're not going to lie about that.  But what do you expect?  It's the South, honey!  Get yourself a sweet tea or a cold beer, find a shady porch or a cool stream and just chill!

What's the Bear on the Square Festival?  In a nutshell - a bear family was displaced when bulldozers were clearing land for the local Wal-mart.  One of the bears wandered all the way up to the square and climbed a tree!  Local Forest Service Rangers relocated the bear safely.  Local residents saw the event as another good excuse to party!  Each year, the bear's trip to the square is commemorated with 2 days of bluegrass music, handcrafted North Georgia art, and delicious festival-food.  Kettle Corn, anyone?
